The smooth sounds and righteous lyrics of “The Last Poets,” a direct link to the creators of modern hip-hop and spoken word poetry, will be coming to Roxbury this Saturday. … “The audience can expect to hear some fiery poetry dealing with our circumstances from the beginning in America to the end,” said 64-year-old Abiodun Oyewole, the only founding member left in the group. “We’re going to have a good time.” … “Young people are much smarter than we give them credit for,” Oyewole. “But the old way of teaching them has to go out we have to get more creative because the kids aren’t learn based on that old method.” Knowledge is exactly what Oyewole and his fellow performers Babatunde Don Eaton and Umar Bin Hassan hope to provide to listeners Saturday. … Money raised will be used to benefit Feed the Hood and Fill Your Fridge, two initiatives to curb hunger.
