Colneth Smiley Jr. of the Boston Herald ran a piece last week about the Last Poets and their historic show in Boston Juneteenth:
The revolution will be lyricized.
Tomorrow night, iconic spoken word and musical group the Last Poets will perform at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury.
The event honors June-teenth — an African-American holiday that commemorates the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of slavery.
“If you do not know where you’ve been, you won’t know where you’re going,” said Civil Rights Movement-era poet Abiodun Oyewole, 62, one of the founding members of the Last Poets.
